Habitat Suites
Project #: 201
System Power Rating: 17 kW
Location: Austin, TX

Austin's Habitat Suites, a charter member of the Green Hotels Association, was one of the first hotels in the country to have significant on-site solar generation. Due to the configuration of the buildings at the site, the 108 panels sit atop three different buildings on the hotel's grounds. There are three different meters and inverters for each of those systems. The meters, in plain view for guests to see as they wander the grounds, are enhanced by artwork. Habitat Suites has been promoting environmental practices since 1991. "We started by eliminating the use of pesticides on our property," said Manager Natalie Marquis. "Since then, we use the most sustainable practices whenever possible and whatever the cost. We've discovered that our environmental choices have been profitable," she said. Austin Mayor Will Wynn praised Habitat Suites as being a leader of environmental practices.
