The Villas on Sixth, a mixed income, mixed use development in East Austin, won the "Community Impact Award" with its combination of retail and office space, apartments, and amenities. Developer Campbell-Hogue & Associates Inc., based in Bellevue, Washington, partnered with the Austin Housing Finance Corporation to create permanently affordable, quality housing in a location with good access to public transportation. Apartments are available to people earning 40% and 50% of Austin's median family income. Twenty-four of the building's 160 units are available at market rates. Villas on Sixth's ground floor also houses office and retail spaces as well as a YMCA learning center offering after-school programs and swimming lessons. Meridian installed a 9.1 kilowatt solar electric system on the roof of the Clubhouse that generates about 1,000 kilowatt hours per month ’Äì as much as an average house in Austin consumes. The energy produced will reduce the utility bill for the Clubhouse and leasing offices.
