Commercial Installation: Electronics Equipment Manufacturer
Project #: 365
System Power Rating: 9.1 kW
Location: Austin, TX

Meridian Energy Systems, Inc. was contracted to design and install a 24.6-kilowatt custom commercial solar electric system. At the time of installation in September, 2007, it was the largest privately owned system in Austin. The electronics equipment manufacturer's site along U.S. 290 East provided an opportunity to showcase the client's commitment to renewable energy. More than 150,000 cars pass by the site each day. Rather than a rooftop system installed out of view, Meridian designed eight top-of-pole mounted "Solar Sunflowers" to stand in a row in front of the plant.

The installation employs 128 BP SX 190 and 195 Watt modules mounted atop eight 12-foot-high galvanized poles. Generated power is distributed across four SMA SB6000 inverters that interconnect with the utility grid. Meridian commissioned custom pole-top structures to accommodate the "sunflower" configuration of each array, finishing each with a central brushed aluminum insert.

Meridian completed the project in a sixty day contract-to-commissioning timeframe. The system will generate over 33,000 kilowatt-hours of pollution-free energy per year.
