The U.S. decided long ago to support energy sources since energy drives our economy. Every major energy source and technology has benefited from federal government R&D support and incentives of various types. This is true of the oil, natural gas, hydroelectric, nuclear and biofuels industries-all of which continue to receive government support today.

 Rebates & Incentives

Incentives to go solar have never been better. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides substantial incentives for solar energy, including residential and commercial federal tax credits and other programs that make going solar more affordable than ever. The Recovery Act also provides substantial funding for solar projects on government buildings and schools. There are also generous rebate programs offered through specific Texas utility providers for which you may qualify. Call Meridian Solar today to see how you can take advantage of these outstanding programs while they last. Here’s a snapshot of what’s currently available:

For Businesses:

Federal Business Tax Credit
A federal business tax credit of 30% of the system cost is available for solar electric (PV) systems.

Treasury Energy Grant
Commercial projects may opt to apply for a Treasury Energy Grant in lieu of the investment tax credit (ITC). This applies to equipment placed in service by December 31, 2010 or construction begun by December 31, 2010 and completed by December 31, 2013.

Federal 5 Year Accelerated Depreciation Schedule
Under the federal Modified Accelerated Cost-Recovery System (MACRS), businesses may recover the cost of a solar electric system on an accelerated 5-year schedule. In 2008 and 2009 the system investment qualifies for the 50% Bonus Depreciation schedule. The owner is entitled to deduct 50% of the adjusted basis of the property in the first year of operation. The remaining 50% of the adjusted basis of the property is depreciated over the ordinary depreciation schedule. The Depreciation Basis is calculated as the System Installation Price – (1/2) Federal Investment Tax Credit. For additional information on all the latest Federal solar incentives, please visit:
